The Farm at Halley Rise Spring ‘24 Update
The Farm at Halley Rise has seen a lot of activity this Spring. At the turn of the year, Up Top Acres took over the management of the two bee hives in the western phase of the farm. Bee on the lookout for our friendly pollinator friends landing on flower buds throughout the farm! These bees are very docile and prefer to be left alone to go about their work, so for your safety please observe the bee hives from a few feet away.
Elsewhere on the farm, we have welcomed the introduction of eight additional fruit trees and other native perennials: soon the farm will provide apples, peaches, and plums to visitors and local wildlife. In the main phase of the garden- the first batch of cool weather-tolerant crops like kale, Swiss chard, and collard greens have been rapidly growing. They will soon fill the shelves at Cornerstones, our fantastic food pantry partner.
Community members are welcome to harvest from the perennial herb and berry gardens so make sure to stroll through on your next walk!
Don’t forget that the first community events of the year at The Farm at Halley Rise start later this month, centered around urban agriculture, bouquet-making, beekeeping, and much more!
