Our History

Our budding business started in 2014, and Up Top Acres quickly grew into a national leader in rooftop farming and urban agriculture. We specialize in working with building owners and managers to best incorporate agriculture on to their property. We’re rooted in DC and have experience working closely with local government, commercial real estate companies, and nonprofits.

We practice what we preach, from the foods we grow to how we operate our business. We’re not another greenwashing initiative—every seed we plant and produce we pick is a choice made with energy, biodiversity, and sustainability in mind.
Gone are the days when agriculture feels far removed from city life. We're changing sustainability expectations to shift the paradigm with imaginative solutions that make holistic landscapes a smarter, easier choice. Our belief is that when functional green spaces are prioritized in cities it creates a happy, healthier future for its people and the planet.
Up is in our name for a reason. Green spaces have a natural way of lifting spirits and calming hearts. Growing your own food is exciting and we strive to incorporate that feeling into the farms and gardens we build and the relationships we grow as our business evolves.
From collaborative design to garden maintenance, we believe that farming should be friendly, accessible, and fun. We think of ourselves as your down-to-earth local farmer and inspire others to get their hands dirty too!

Everyone deserves access to fresh food and spaces for communities to gather no matter your access to acreage. Our goal is to provide equitable access to locally grown food, and green spaces in urban areas.

Farmers: With 20+ years in farms of all shapes and sizes, from 40 acres production farms to half acre demonstration gardens.

Urban Farm Installers: Over 10 years of experience building urban farms in a variety of settings, from ground level to commercial rooftops.
Event Planners + Farm Educators: We’re passionate about activating our farms and gardens, and have hosted hundreds of farm-based events of every type; school groups, corporate events, farm conferences, etc.
